It's hard to believe that it's been that long since men first walked on the surface of another world, and that after Apollo 17 in 1972 that feat has not been repeated. |

| A more entertaining way to tear a phone book in half |
[Feb. 22nd, 2009|11:12 am] |
Well, it's not actually a phone book, but the size and weight are about the same. After a bad week at work I needed to unwind over the weekend, and as it happened we had some catalogs at work that were either out of date or redundant. My supervisor let me take them, knowing full well what was about to happen.
Before. I found some target stickers at Wal-Mart while I was looking for something else, and one of those stickers is on the spine of the catalog. The shreds of paper were from the previous catalog. As you can see, the barrel I was using to help hold up the catalog has had a lot of rounds shot through it.
 After.
I used two rifles to tear it up. The one on the left is my rifle, a Marlin 25N. The one on the right was my grandpa's rifle, which was given to him in 1944. |

| Alice Cooper is 60 years old. |
[Sep. 12th, 2008|10:20 pm] |
And he can rock!
I just saw him do a show at the State Fair tonight. It amuses me that I went to the show with my dad, who first saw Alice live when he was in high school. It was to my mom's chagrin that we both went, since she just doesn't like Alice Cooper, which is a shame. I listen to Nights With Alice Cooper now and then and I can tell that he has a great sense of humor and doesn't take himself too seriously, which makes him all right in my book. One of the intro segments claims that Alice Cooper has "been decapitated more times than any other DJ." He didn't lose his head, though he did end up hanging himself, only to reenter the stage wearing (for lack of a better term) a patriotic biker outfit. The closing number was Elected, and believe me, if Alice Cooper ran for president I'd vote for him. He is indeed a troubled man for troubled times.
My ears are still ringing and my dad yelled himself hoarse. The show was awesome. |

I can tell you that the old saying of lightning never striking the same place twice isn't very accurate. Roughly at the bottom center of the frame is a radio tower that was probably struck five or six times while I was out there.
Here's an interesting detail: I was standing in about the same place where I took this shot, but with the camera turned about 180 degrees. |

Can't remember where I found this. I must say this wouldn't work nearly as well if the guy didn't have that facial expression. |
